 Detroit Speed and Engineering

“Detroit Speed & Engineering has set the bar for innovation and quality products for the Pro-Touring enthusiast. The owners of DSE, Kyle & Stacy Tucker, have both worked as engineers with the OEM industry and they are now applying those skills to provide modern handling and suspension systems for the popular American muscle cars. As an owner operated company, they truly care about the customer and are very service oriented. It is always nice to be able to call and speak directly with the owner when questions arise. I would highly recommend Detroit Speed & Engineering for your suspension and Pro-Touring parts needs.” Jeff Mortenson

Detroit Speed
Tubular Upper Control Arms

The Detroit Speed and Engineering control arm kit is a complete and comprehensive package. DSE has done all the engineering and testing, and supplies all parts needed to complete the installation.

The Detroit Speed and Engineering upper control arm kit is a bolt on enhancement for 1970-81 Camaros and Firebirds. Suspension geometry is improved over stock by increasing camber gain and improving roll camber. DSE's upper control arms have been computer modeled and the components have undergone finite element analysis. The control arms have CNC stainless steel cross shafts which incorporate DSE's 'Caster Tuner Bushings'. These aluminum busings adjust caster by moving the upper control arm fore/aft for more or less caster without adding alignment shims. This unique caster adjustment design is engineered to be precise and permanent. The upper control arms also utilize DSE designed bushings. These greaseable aluminum/Delrin bushings have an increased stiffness over stock. This provides more consistent and precise handling. The bushings also have CNC machined bevel stainless washers and stainless ny-lock nuts.

The upper control arms have CNC machined tube ends for precision fits. The arms are then TIG welded in a fixture for accuracy and repeatablity of geometry. The ball joint pocket is CNC machined from billet for increased strength. The arms are powder coated gloss black and come assembled with ball joints. Two sets of 'Caster Tuner Bushings' are included. The Detroit Speed and Engineering upper control arms are ready to bolt on!

1
Tubular Lower Control Arms

Detroit Speed and Engineering's new tubular lower control arms replace stock lower control arms on 1970-81 Camaro and Firebirds. These new tubular lower control arms are complete with lower ball joints, steering stops, and jounce bumpers. Features include a robust tubular design with gussets and cross brace, Delrin bushings with steel housings and crush tubes, and a black powder coat finish. The geometry features include additional positive caster and a dropped spring pocket compared to stock. These lower control arms are available with either a conventional lower coil spring pocket or a double shear mount four our coilover kit.

3
Body Mounts

Detroit Speed and Engineering's solid body mounts provide a simple approach to eliminating the flex that occurs between the body and subframe connection. This will improve vehicle handling response by increasing chassis stiffness. These mounts should be used when installing subframe connectors for maximum torsional rigidity.

Detroit Speed and Engineering's uniquely designed body mounts are CNC machined from billet aluminum. The mounts are then hardcoated, not bright anodized. The hardcoating process resists corrosion that can occur between steel and aluminum surfaces with regular bright anodizing. CNC machined stainless steel bevel washers are included. 17-4 stainless steel flanged body bolts are also available as an option.

4
600 Steering Gear

Now you can achieve rack and pinion steering performance with a bolt-in steering gear. This steering gear can be used to replace the common GM 800 series power steering gear used from 1964 to 1992. It features include:

  • All new steering gear unit, not rebuilt
  • Increased steering feel due to low friction gear design
  • Precision rack and pinion valve technology
  • Late model performance car feel
  • Quick ratio 12.7:1
  • 6 lbs lighter than stock
  • Original pitman arm may be used
  • A new 3/4 x 30 spline rag joint may be needed in some applications

5
'Bright Driver' Headlights

You will no longer worry about what is front of you in the road when driving at night. This kit provides all the visibility and convenience of a late model headlight system that easily mounts into many early hot rods that use 7" round headlights.

Detroit Speed and Engineering has developed a headlight kit for early hot rods that features two Bright Driver headlights and bulbs with the wiring pigtails attached. The Bright Driver headlights provide superior visibility when compared with the original and are a direct replacement for the original glass sealed beam lamps. The DSE headlights are 0.8 pounds lighter than stock. No additional mounting components are required. These headlights use a replaceable halogen bulb (9007, found in local parts stores) and provide up to 1500 hours of low beam light. The bulb and connector are sealed, preventing lamp leakage and connector corrosion. The Gore-Tex vent provides a one-way filter for water vapor to escape, and the polycarbonate lens is up to 30 times more impact resistant than glass.

Battery Mount

The DSE CNC machined aluminum battery mount is designed around the optima battery. It is a simple, strong, and good looking way to hold your Optima battery anywhere. The entire battery mount is machined from 6061 billet aluminum. Three countersunk stainless steel bolts secure the top of the battery mount to the support rods. The base of the mount is mounted to your vehicle with no visible bolts from the top. There are 6 drilled and tapped holes on the underside of the base. Although fewer attachment locations will securely mount your battery, we provide 6 mounting holes to give you added flexibility. We provide a mounting hole template that will assist you in locating the holes. The mounts are shipped in a natural aluminum finish. The dimensions of the battery mount are 11 1/2" X 8 1/2" X 7 1/2" tall.
